Grading Policy

Berea Middle School follows the Greenville County Schools academic grading system. Grades reflect student performance and progress toward learning expectations.

Grading Scale

• A: 90–100
• B: 80–89
• C: 70–79
• D: 60–69
• F: 0–59

Assessment Weighting

• 50% Major Assessments — tests, major projects, formal writing, and similar assessments.
• 50% Minor Assessments — quizzes, classwork, warm-ups, and smaller assignments.

Late Work Policy

Students are expected to submit assignments by the assigned deadline. Missing work may initially be recorded as Not Handed In (NHI) or Zero.

Late Assignment Window

Unexcused late work may generally be accepted within 5–7 school days of the original due date, or until the applicable grading period ends, whichever comes first.

Recovery & Support

Students should use available remediation, OnTrack Time, flex time, or tutoring opportunities to address missing work and stay on track.

Redo / Revise / Retake

Students may have opportunities to reassess their learning and demonstrate improved understanding.

Major Assessments

Retakes or redos apply to major tests and projects. Minor daily assignments and quizzes are not eligible for retakes.

One Opportunity

Students may receive one retake opportunity per eligible major assessment.

Relearning

Students should request a retake within the applicable timeframe and may be required to complete relearning activities such as corrections, tutoring, or additional preparation.

Major assessments submitted late are not eligible for a redo or retake.

Student Procedures

Students are expected to follow classroom and school procedures that support safety, learning, accountability, and respectful behavior.

Daily Expectations

• Follow classroom directions and remain engaged in learning.
• Remain in the assigned seat unless permission is given to move.
• Follow restroom and hallway procedures.
• Complete assigned work and use available time responsibly.
• Treat classmates, teachers, and school property respectfully.

Attendance & Accountability

Students are expected to arrive on time, be present for instruction, and take responsibility for their learning and behavior.

Leaving the Classroom

Students must follow the classroom's established procedures and obtain permission before leaving the classroom.

Technology & Device Use

Phones & Personal Devices

Greenville County Schools requires students to follow district and state restrictions regarding personal electronic devices during the school day.

Middle school students may not use personal electronic devices during the school day unless an authorized exception applies. Devices should remain turned off or silenced and kept out of sight as directed by the school.

Chromebooks

Chromebooks should be used only when directed by the teacher for an assigned learning activity.

MagicSchool & Responsible AI

Teacher-directed AI activities may support feedback, brainstorming, problem-solving, and learning. Students must use these tools responsibly and according to assignment directions.

MagicSchool AI may be used as an educational technology resource for teacher-directed activities and learning support.
